As Central Highlands Water's web services partner, we provide the following skills:
Central Highlands Water needed a reliable and technically capable web services partner to audit their legacy web systems, create a plan for migration to a new web platform, execute the plan and provide ongoing support.
NBS Digital was selected as the Web Services Partner, and we continue to work closely with Central Highlands Water to deliver timely and relevant information to the community surrounding Ballarat.
After a website re-design and re-platform from a legacy Joomla system to Drupal, Central Highlands Water now have a stable, enterprise grade website environment to service their customers.
When we were first approached by Central Highlands Water, their old web system was reaching end of life and was no longer supported. NBS Digital worked with CHW to develop a plan to migrate to a Drupal. We held a number of workshops with key stakeholders and staff from across the organisation to establish an information architecture for the new site. Using this information, we were able to develop a set of wirefames so that decision makers could visualise our proposed layout for the new site. Planning can be easily overlooked, however we believe it is an essential stage of a successful project. NBS Digital tries to make the planning process an enjoyable and valuable experience, and one that is efficient without any unnecessary bloat.
Based on the approved set of wireframes, we got stuck into the design. Central Highlands Water had a corporate style guide, which included guidelines and specifications for use of their logo, corporate colour palette and complimentary colour palette. We were able to modernise the design of their site, improving usability in line with the wireframes while staying within their corporate style guidelines. In conjuntion with the website design, we were able to commence development of the site based on the approved wireframes. The ability to work in a non-linear, agile fashion allowed us to deliver the project at a greater speed than a traditional 'waterfall' web development project management methodology would allow.
Central Highlands Water needed a way to communicate information to their customers in an easy to consume manner. This information includes water storage levels at various reservoirs, current faults and emergencies and major projects. We suggested that we could pull data from their internal systems and insert in to custom Drupal content types. Then we could plot the content types with the information on an interactive map using Google Maps. The result is that you can navigate through the region on a map and view live water storage levels and information about projects, faults and emergencies.
Planning and Producing a website is only half the battle. As a web services partner, we are on hand to host and support the Central Highlands Water website, and to provide guidance, staff training and new feature development. This process is managed through regular monthly meetings, where we review website performance and make a plan for the coming month. Our technical team perform regular updates to the Drupal Core and modules as releases and patches come available. We also manage the Fujitsu Cloud Hosting, which is has proven to be reliable, reporting 100% uptime in 2015.
